Madama Butterfly

I think when you animate the Madama Butterfly opera it gives it more of a childish feeling to it. Its playful compared to the live opera of it. The only thing I don't like about the animate part is that when it needs to be sad or dreadful it does not seem as much as real life. On the other hand, it can be more creative because, you can do different things animated then in real life, like flying a little girl as a kite in the air or disassembling yourself.  I still think it is lacking in the human part that make opera.  I think its because of the face, yes you can make expressions with the Claymation, but the tiny little expressions are not exact. Overall, I just cannot get over that major part.

Also I feel like they Claymation kind of misses the point by making it about the process of animation rather, than the human element to the opera its self. Instead, it kind of pokes fun at the opera which is fine. If you come from that stand point,  I  feel like it works well. It kind
of makes fun of all its little corks in the opera.  That makes this lighthearted which is kind
of funny, because most operas are serious trying to show the worst of life a lot.

For it being whimsical it is just another view on this opera. From the Claymation of the women flying the kite to the very bright use of colors. I feel like the colors are much brighter in the animation than in the real life version. There is many pros and cons with doing it as a Claymation, but if you don’t look at it by taking it seriously. I feel like it’s just a fun way to reshow the opera in a different way.
